Watching contemp and lyrical really makes me wish I was in them. I have no idea how Jinglin and Sabrina can choreograph soooooo nicely. And all the dancers are just so good! *sigh* It's just full of people like WenYing, who can kick the back of her head practically without bending her leg, or just stick-thin gorgeous dancers like sharon lee and all.

But it's people like mel, jinglin, sabrina, xinlin that make the dance truly more than worth the watching. No denying, Joany or gladys or Sharon lee or Xinqin dancing will be worth watching. Watching XinQin could make you smile - but Mel could make you cry. It's so beautiful.

As dancers, we have the ability to tell how other dancers are good, and often pick out the choreographer. For example when I was watching Dom's dance video, then commented here and there that a particular girl was pretty good, and he replied that she was the dance IC. Even after they changed blocking and when she came back on stage - I couldn't tell it was the same girl, but when I commented it always was. Well, There's a trick to it - the choreographer is often a little off time with everyone else, but more on time with the music. Usually front-row most of the time, but often slightly off-centre to let others share the limelight. Usually another really good dancer will be put front centre or the tip of the pyramid, although a solo would usually contain the choreographer.

Anyway, another thing about the choreographer is that they ALWAYS look so comfortable doing the steps, and just make it their own (well, it IS their own after all) and make the steps look great. Mel and Jinglin are the sort of dancers that look like choreographers in every dance they do, because they're just so great. When they're on stage, you'll watch them because it's so nice - they hit the counts, get the feel, and just, well, dance.

Dance is the movement of the soul.
